![]() ![]() We plugged in our hub and visited the App Store to download the app, but when we tried to connect to the Hub it hung for about five minutes.Īt this point, we decided to try the desktop software for Mac and that did the trick. Simply plug the hub in near your entertainment setup and download the Harmony app. Lifewire / Yoona Wagener Setup Process: Not lightning quick and a little clumsyĪt first blush, it seems that setting up the Harmony Companion will be a breeze. It connects with the remote through RF signals and communicates with specific equipment through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or infrared signals, depending on the type of device. The hub is the primary liaison between all devices and the remote. In the bottom center of the front of the hub, there’s an LED light that indicates whether it’s connected, powered on, pairing, or syncing with the remote or mobile app. There are several ports in the back: one for the USB cable for set up via a Mac or PC or the power adapter, and two IR mini blaster ports for extended coverage to devices behind cabinets. There’s also the Harmony Hub, a black and glossy square that measures 4.16 x 4.88 x 1 inches. The buttons are responsive and don’t require a lot of fussing over, although the short- versus long-push actions are sometimes difficult to discern. It measures 7.25 inches in length, and has a nice ergonomic arch, which makes it easy to cradle in your hand. First, there’s the remote itself, which is lightweight at 4.2 ounces and quite slim at just. While it lacks a touchscreen or flashy design elements, the Harmony Companion is still pretty sleek. I've only used receivers, not soundbars, so I can't really comment on that although in my experience Harmony has worked great with virtually everything I've thrown at it.Lifewire / Yoona Wagener Design: A little out of the ordinary For other services like Vudu, you'll need to launch it to the Smart activity hub and select it (if you fix the apps in a certain order, it can somewhat be automated with a macro). ![]() The one caveat on the LG to note is that Harmony will have the same limitation as the regular LG Magic Remote in that only Netflix & Amazon will have buttons that can call them directly. If it's not urgent, you can generally find a better price than $300 for it. I am very happy with the Elite although I'm biased towards the Harmony platform as I've been on it for a while (went 880 -> Harmony One -> Elite). I have an Elite which I use to control my LG OLED C7, receiver (Onkyo TX-RZ830), PS4 Pro, & Xbox One X without any issues I also use it to connect to my Nest & Smartthings although I find I mainly use other ways to control those (Alexa, phone, etc.). I don’t think a new remote will fix these issues per se, but I’d be happy if they did or at least find a better fix. I usually have sound right away, but have to switch inputs to get the display to so properly. Sometimes I have to do this multiple times before the audio and display both come up on the tv and through the Soundbar. My ps4 which we use for movies and discs is on input 1 to get it to work I have to go to input 2 (chrome cast) let it “load” then go back to input 1 to actually get the tv to display the ps4 menu. The other 10% is if I do it too fast or randomly the sound will just stop on YouTube then I go back into Netflix, auto play, back to YouTube and good again. One of the weird things is I can’t just turn on the tv, launch YouTube and go, I have to turn on the tv, launch Netflix let it auto play something the sound will then kick on, then I can go to YouTube and 90% of time all good, otherwise if I go straight to YouTube the Soundbar is on but no sound. Not a huge issue because with the sync will auto turn on. Soundbar “issues”: basically it almost works great, except the Magic remote when I use the other power button(top right of magic remote) for the “set top” (after I already synced with the Soundbar) it launches the setup process for a new set top box instead of turning on the Soundbar. I was looking at the Harmony elite because I also have Alexa, a nest thermostat, and some smart bulbs I figured I could use with it too. I wanted to make sure this wasn’t the same issue with the Harmony Elite. All I could do was change channel, volume, and input essentially. I tried setting up my PS4 universal remote which works almost fine except I can’t access the home menu to launch Youtube, Netflix, Amazon, or any other apps. (See below if you’re curious)īasically I’m trying to see if this remote, before wheeling out almost $300, after ship and tax, works well with this TV and possibly Soundbar. I also have a Klipsch RSB-14 Soundbar and Sub, which has some quirks with the magic remote/TV, but that is a different issue. Hey all, I have a LG OLED65C6P and my LG magic remote (that came with the TV) is starting to act up, basically occasionally it will stop taking inputs except for the power button. ![]()
